New York – January 22, 2020 – The Switch, a leading provider of production services and global delivery of live video, announces it is partnering with Turkish news agency New TR to add crucial Middle Eastern and European news hotspots to its global transmission network while enabling the Istanbul-based organization to extend its own global reach. The agreement allows both organizations to acquire and distribute live feeds between the Turkish agency’s new Istanbul teleport and The Switch’s London facility.

The deal gives The Switch’s clients greater access to key news hubs in the Middle East and Europe, while giving New TR the capacity to cover international events in markets where it does not have a network presence on the ground. The Switch can now easily connect to any of New TR’s facilities across the Middle East and Europe to carry news to broadcasters in the US, Canada, UK and other countries while, for distribution in its key markets, New TR can receive content from any location in The Switch’s extensive global network.

To keep critical news content flowing without delay, The Switch is providing two dedicated transmission paths between its London hub and New TR’s Istanbul facility, plus a return path from Istanbul to London. New TR is also able to leverage The Switch’s fully equipped studios in New York and London for live inserts and breaking news events.

NFL Network Flexes ‘At-Home’ Muscles With The Switch for Conference USA Schedule

  • Five of the 10-game schedule were produced from The Switch’s Burbank, CA, studio

With college-football championship week and bowl season just around the corner, conferences are assessing their regular-season broadcast operations. While organizations like Pac-12 Networks lead the way in producing games remotely, other conferences are moving toward that model. This year, NFL Network forged a partnership with The Switch and produced five of the network’s 10-game schedule of the Conference USA season via at-home production.

“When we picked up one game per week from Conference USA, we put out bids and responses from traditional production [companies], but The Switch came back with an at-home model,” says Leon Schweir, VP, broadcast operations, NFL Network. “There was a price point we wanted to hit, and I think they helped get us there, so we signed up with them during the first week of June.”

New York – October 15, 2019 – The Switch, the platform for the production and global transmission of live video, was pivotal in delivering uninterrupted live linear TV broadcasts and online streaming of the ninth Hengshui Lake International Marathon in September, leveraging its extensive network in China to bring the event to audiences around the globe. Working in partnership with Chinese media production and content packaging company New Force Media, The Switch utilized its established experience and the global reach of its transmission network to deliver flawless coverage to international broadcasters – as well reaching marathon fans worldwide via live streaming websites.

The long-distance race was the second event in China that The Switch has brought to audiences around the world in recent months, after supporting the global broadcast and streaming of the Lanzhou International Marathon in June. The popularity of long distance and marathon running in China is exploding, with the number of races increasing more than tenfold since 2015; it is expected to drive growth in the sports gear market to $18 billion by 2020 – doubling its value in five years.

Set in one of China’s national nature reserves, the 2019 Hengshui Lake International Marathon attracted some 20,000 professional athletes and running enthusiasts across the full 26-mile marathon, the half marathon and the 3.1-mile fun run on September 22. The Switch coordinated with the event’s broadcast rights holders to deliver content to audiences in China and abroad. In addition, the dedicated over-the-top (OTT) channel for the event was managed by The Switch, which handled everything from set-up to inserts from its Los Angeles control room.

Switching it on at IBC 2019: The Switch to showcase expansion of live production services and increased global reach

The Switch and MTI Teleport partner to extend global reach for live content delivery

NEW YORK – August 12, 2019 – The Switch, the platform for the production and global transmission of live video, has partnered with MTI Teleport, Germany’s leading media backbone operator, to combine and extend the global reach of the two company’s production services and transmission networks. The move makes it easier and more cost-effective for customers of the Switch and MTI to acquire live feeds and distribute content seamlessly via a reliable, extensive international network.

Bring it home: The Switch Expands At-Home Production Services to Meet Growing Demand for Live TV

The investment is designed to meet rising demand for live content, driven primarily by sports events. Broadcasters and rights holders can now leverage The Switch’s unique combination of high-end production capabilities and unmatched network reach to cost-effectively capture, edit and package even more sports and live event content, delivering it to viewers anywhere in the world, on any device.

In a changing media landscape, live sports and events remain a huge draw across all viewing platforms. Broadcasters and content producers are covering more live events than ever – creating greater opportunities to engage audiences around the world. However, tightening production budgets are driving a need for more flexible and efficient alternatives to expensive outside broadcast (OB) operations.

The Switch®, a global leader of managed, private cloud services that enhance live video productions anywhere in the world, has appointed media technology industry veteran Eric Cooney as the President and Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.  As CEO, Mr. Cooney will be focused on accelerated growth through product innovation, both organically and with targeted mergers and acquisitions.

“Eric is an experienced CEO with deep industry knowledge and a track record for driving strategy and resource allocation to maximize value creation,” said Adam Clammer, The Switch’s Chairman and founding partner of True Wind Capital.  “I am confident that The Switch is well-positioned for our next stage of accelerated growth and market expansion under Eric’s leadership.”

Mr. Cooney brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector, most recently serving as an operating executive at True Wind Capital and a board director for The Switch.  During his tenure as CEO, his three previous companies, Tandberg Television (OSE: TAT), Internap (NASDAQ: INAP) and Snell Advanced Media, created over $2 billion in incremental enterprise value with a focus on sales execution, product innovation and exceptional customer service.

In addition to the launch of this innovative, new product suite, The Switch will sponsor the “Esports Experience,” the NAB Show’s first eSports pavilion located in the North Hall (N1921), which will highlight the technology behind eSports production, brand building initiatives and monetization strategies in what is the fastest growing segment of the entertainment industry.

Additionally, The Switch will lead three sessions detailing its value proposition and experience in eSports at N419, these include: Managing Your Content for the Global Audience on Monday, April 8 from 3-3:30PM, eSports Today, an Evolution on Tuesday, April 9 from 10:15-10:30AM, and Beyond IP: Securing and Streaming Your Content on Tuesday, April 9 from 11:30-12PM.

The “Esports Experience” will also include live gaming, a built-in recording studio in which CheckPoint XP, a popular gaming radio show will be conducting live interviews from the space, and will feature prominent gaming personalities such as Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel.
